Interstitial Cystitis, also known as IC or Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS), is a chronic inflammatory condition of the bladder that affects both women and men. Current estimates suggest that there may be almost 2 million Americans suffering from IC; ninety percent of these are women. The average age of onset is 40, however twenty five percent of sufferers are under the age of 30. The typical symptoms are frequent and/or painful urination, and chronic lower abdominal pain.
